We are almost at the end of summer for this year. With one month to go, most of us will be back in school or back to full-time work. While I didn’t get as much as I wanted done over the summer, I did make some progress with the launch of Yumestate and managed to finish a couple of series in my free time.
After realizing Hanasaku Iroha is 24 episodes, I stopped watching at the 9th or 10th episode because I really don’t like waiting on a week-to-week basis for Anime to finish. That being said, it is obvious that my logic doesn’t seem too sound as I’m having to wait XX amount of weeks anyway for the series, I may as well watch them weekly. Well that is just not how I watch my Anime; I prefer having a completed list so that I can watch them anytime or anywhere, without having to wait.
Putting both Nichijou and Hanasaku Iroha aside, Gosick has finished, which means I can start watching that in the near future. I’m excited to watch this series, since Victorique de Blois looks so Moe it’s almost hard to resist putting it off. Under my to-watch list is Ano Hana, which I still haven’t got around to unfortunately, C – The Possibility of a ridiculously long title, and a bunch of others that I can’t remember right now. I will try my best to update Yumestate once I complete these series.
As stated previously, I did manage to complete some Anime this month: Hidan No Aria (Aria, the Scarlet Ammo) was typically what I expected, Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko was okay, Ga-Rei: Zero was interesting although the ending was a bit disappointing, and Hoshizora e Kakaru Hashi was mediocre, albeit expected.
After hearing people rave about the upcoming manga adaptation of Hidan No Aria, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t interested as well. Turns out this Anime was your typical harem with the plot moving everywhere but up. It’s unfortunate that this Anime had to go down this route, since it looked promising from almost all angles. I’m not going to provide a full review of the series, but let’s just say it failed to meet my expectations.
Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko was actually quite interesting. I especially enjoyed the interaction between characters; the 4 girls who interact with the male protagonist are all so Moe. I really liked Ryuushi and her constant struggle to convince others that her name is actually Ryuuko. She has that innocent, playful banter with the other characters that makes her really fun to watch. Pair that with her voice actress, Emiri Kato (Bakemonogatari, Puella Magi Madoka Magica), and you get a truly bubbly personality that you can’t help but fall in love with.
Hoshizora as I stated previously is typically what you would expect of a harem anime series. You have one guy who just happens to be liked by multiple girls that go to the same school as him (like there aren’t any other guys whatsoever). From there, you have various encounters with the different girls who all share some sort of special moment or memory with him, thus increasing their unrequited love for the guy. This is pretty much the whole plot for Hoshizora.
I tend to be on the less-harsh side when it comes to reviewing and offering my opinions on good/bad anime, so I will say that there were some parts that I liked in Hoshizora. The cast had a wide variety of personalities which was a plus, but some of the voice acting was pretty bad. The ending was extremely easy to guess, but it did make sense naturally from the first episode. Overall, it was a very mediocre anime to watch. I would like to do a character analysis for Hoshizora at some point, but this will be on low priority.
I started watching Freezing and Mitsudomoe 2 the other day. Both are fun to watch when you don’t really care about story/plot. Freezing is very ecchi, to the point where I would not recommend it for anyone below 18 because of its themes and revealing characters, while Mitsudomoe is also very mature in its themes, even though it’s about sixth graders.
So that brings us to the end of this monthly update. The frequency of posts are lacking lately because of me taking vacation between work. I just came back from a camping trip, and will have to catch up on some work as well. Sorry for the delays on everything at Yumestate.com. Stay tuned! I promise there will be more to add shortly.
